Aims and Scope

The RPFC newsletter was developed with the aim of promoting and publicising research activities and significant achievements in research among the staff and students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo (UCFM)

The newsletter publishes articles, news items, announcements and comments related to any type of scientific research from staff members or students of UCFM.

All items need to be developed using minimally scientific language understandable to scholarly readers as well as general public and it is recommended to use illustrations and images as much as possible.

Types of articles

  • Key findings or outcomes of a research project/study
  • Review of a scientific topic or a specific article of timely importance
  • Feature on a researcher or a research group within the UCFM
  • Commentary regarding an activity within UCFM related to research Eg; Annual research symposium
  • Proposal or concept paper on a potential research activity
  • Publicity on scientific gatherings, activities or projects within the UCFM

Guidelines for submission

Preparation of article

  • Use only MS word format
  • Do not use more than three levels of headings
  • Word count should not exceed 1000 words or the entire article should not exceed three A4 pages with images and illustrations
  • If references or bibliography are included, they should be in Vancouver format
  • Footnotes should be avoided. However, the endnote option in MS Word may be used when submitting the article initially.

Images and graphics

  • Images should be sent in jpeg, tiff, png format
  • Resolution should be 300dpi or above
  • Illustrations and graphics may be developed using either MS office, MS Paint or Adobe software and should be sent in editable format
  • Images of clinical patients or study participants should conform to standard ethical principles in scientific reporting and should be properly de-identified
  • Images of a sensitive or graphic nature will not be published

Article submission

  • Submit your article via email to rpfcnews@med.cmb.ac.lk
  • The title of the article should be entered into the subject bar
  • In the body of the email please include the corresponding author’s name, designation, mobile number and email address
  • Articles will be reviewed for suitability and content and the corresponding author will be notified of acceptance and any changes needed to the article.
