Submission
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS
- The abstract must report original research, protocols of original research, systematic reviews or meta-analyses, or case studies, that have not been previously published elsewhere.
- At least one of the co-authors must be affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo or the Colombo Medical School Alumni Association (CoMSAA).
- An author may submit one abstract as the sole author and one abstract as a co-author, OR up to a maximum of four abstracts as a co-author.
- Abstracts may be submitted under the Open category or the Undergraduate Student category.
Abstracts submitted under the student category should arise from research projects conducted during the undergraduate period at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, and must be presented by the student who carried out the project. Each abstract must be co-authored by a permanent staff member of the faculty or a member of CoMSAA. (A predetermined number of suitable abstracts submitted under the student category may be selected for presentation under the Open category.)
- The title should be brief, reflect the study being reported, and be written in sentence case, with capitalization of proper nouns only.
- The names of the author(s) and their affiliations/addresses –
- Capital letters should be used only for the initials and the first letters of the authors’ surnames.
- The address of the Institution in which the work was carried out should be included under the author’s name.
- If the collaborators are from different institutions, brief addresses of the institutions should be included. In this case, the addresses of the co-authors should be indicated by superscript numbers placed after the authors’ names, corresponding to the respective institution addresses (as shown below).

- The text of the abstract should not exceed 300 words, excluding the title, author affiliations, acknowledgments, and keywords. The abstract should cover key information from the Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusions sections, presented in an unstructured format.
- A maximum of five keywords should be provided.
- Acknowledgements should be limited to the name/s of funding agencies along with the grant number/s.
- Standard abbreviations of SI units should be used.
- Abstracts should be coherent and free from plagiarism and language errors.
- Before submitting your abstract, ensure that the entire content fits on a single A4 page with 1-inch margins all around, using Times New Roman font, size 11, and 1.5 line spacing.
- Abstract(s) should be submitted through the online portal of CMC 2025 (http://192.248.19.11/cmc2025/openconf/openconf.php). For any matters regarding submissions, please contact the committee by email at: cmc@med.cmb.ac.lk
- During submission, in addition to your full abstract as a Word document, a PDF version of your abstract without author names and the declaration should be uploaded as a single file.
- Declaration by the authors
- The annexed declaration form must be signed by the Corresponding Author and uploaded as indicated in Section 14.
- Please note:
- All correspondence will be addressed to the corresponding author.
- If the presenter indicated in the application is unable to present the paper, it is the responsibility of the corresponding author to either withdraw the paper in advance or arrange for one of the co-authors to present it. If the abstract is not presented, it will be withdrawn from the final abstract book, and all co-authors will be notified.
- Ethical considerations - where applicable, the name of the Ethics Review Committee along with the approval number should be provided during submission. For clinical trials, the clinical trials registry number should be submitted.
- All financial and non-financial competing interests/conflicts of interest must be declared.
- The Editorial Committee has the right to reject the abstracts not conforming to these requirements.
